Hamedan carpet

Hamedan is one of the major centers of carpet weaving in Iran. Its importance is due to the fact that the amount of products and rugs produced at cheap prices is more than other areas of carpet weaving in Iran, so that Hamedan can be called the center of cheap rugs. In previous years, more than hundreds of thousands of people were engaged in carpet weaving in Hamedan province, but today only 47,719 carpet weavers remain, of which 37,670 are women and 10,049 are They are gentlemen.

The history of the carpet weaving industry in Hamedan has not been proven, but it can be inferred that with the cold and long winters in this region, it is necessary for people to prepare a type of carpet to cover their living room or floor. There is evidence that this industry existed in Qorveh Darzezin or Dargzin in Hamedan in the 16th century AD, because it is said that Shah Tahmasb Safavid gave a Dargzin rug to his brother Shah Suleiman Osmani (known as Qanuni), so it seems so. About 450 years ago, the people of Hamedan were famous in this industry.

What distinguishes Hamedan carpets more than anything else is its long and woolly roots, so that Hamedan carpets are heavier than carpets from other parts of Iran.

The variety of designs and designs of carpets in the region easily indicates that the expansion of this profession was certainly the result of many years ago. The existence of advanced carpet weaving in some Dargazin villages, including Suzan village, indicates the history of carpet production in this region.

Jakup Pollak, a physician at the Qajar court in the 1850s, says in his travelogue, “Iranian carpets are more famous not for color but for durability and texture accuracy … Second-class weavers know how to enhance the appearance of rugs by using a light brown dye in the background of camel wool rugs.
